It is human nature for our brain to be constantly in need of new information.  Social media delivers just that.  It is an excuse when you’re bored.  An easy way to stalk your best friend.  The leading cause of procrastination.  But most importantly, it is an addiction. Time to get out and vote!  We have provided bio, info, twitter handles, and LinkedIn profiles for Madison SMC members to research each nominee before voting. Members are defined as one of the 566 people on our current mailing list as of Friday May 4, at Midnight.  Some of the offices, you may note, are uncontested. There will be space for write in candidates for all offices except for president. As you may note in a prior post, the presidential nominees must have already been on the board to pursue the president position.

Look for your email that gives members the link to vote. This will be a unique link to each member. If anyone else uses your link, there vote will override the prior vote. Read the rest of this entry »

Lacrosse and social media?

As part of the Wisconsin Men’s MCLA lacrosse team, I’ve seen first-hand the impact social media has on connecting teams with their fans.  My lacrosse team has both an active Facebook fan page, as well as a twitter account (@badgerlacrosse). Read the rest of this entry »

Social Media Club of Madison Crowd The official position postings are, well, official. They are named according to what non profit organizations are required to have by law and the national SMC bylaws.  Our chapter will be no different. We are getting serious. As such, this is a pretty long post with all the details of each position. This is a starting point and the activities have been gleaned from the Social Media Club and various other clubs across the nation that have set up official chapters. Feel free to send any more questions to madisonsmc (at) gmail (dot) com. Read the rest of this entry »

It’s an election year and Social Media Club of Madison wants to get in the game!  We are applying to be a full chapter of Social Media Club. That means we have raised the necessary $1000 in funds and in professional membership fees to do so.

As part of the suggested Bylaws offered by the National Social Media Club, Social Media Club of Madison (MadisonSMC)  must hold an election for a 2012 Board. In order to do so, we must have a call for nominations for the positions open. And this is it!  Our official chapter application is now in the mail to the national Social Media Club leader Kristie Wells. Read the rest of this entry »

Madison SMC UW Intern Team sans KevinI know its been a little quiet on the #MadisonSMC front as we started the year.  But there are lots going on behind the curtains. In 2012, we are on the way to being full chapter of SocialMediaClub.org. In addition, I applied for and won some UW Students looking for a project. Professor Rick Marolt is the UW Instructor for MHR 401: The Management of Teams.  He reached out looking for organizations who could help give these students valuable real world experience. All I can say is that I am glad they chose SMC Madison! In fact, four of them drove all the way to Lodi to meet with me to get this all started. Now that is real dedication. Opening the Highways to All Mankind

Its not every day that one of the big five automakers comes to Madison WI. Our friends over at Social Media Breakfast Madison have asked and been rewarded with the presence of Scott Monty, Ford’s Global Digital Multimedia Communications Director, coming to Madison on January 18, 2012 at the Monona Terrace. RSVP on Eventbrite – no walk-ins day of.

Sponsors

With the sponsorship of Ford, presenting sponsor Shoutlet, and new kid on the block Engaging Social helping out, the Madison social media professional community as well as  business owners, and people who like a great presentation will be able to attend for free.

Additional supporting sponsors are Lands’ End Business Outfitters with a very cool canvas bag to house other donated SWAG items from local businesses.  A regular contributor to SMB Madison is Suttle Straus who makes a mean decal for your car or business front door.

RSVP

Get in on the fun and education if you are an early riser. Unlike our Madison SMC events that happen at night, SMB Madison gets up at ungodly hours of the morning, supplies hot and steamy coffee and food for your belly.

They do require you to register for tickets for this event, but guess what, its free so humor them and RSVP at Eventbrite. This event will not allow seating for people who just show up at the door due to space limitations.

At the time of this writing, over 200 people have registered and a wait list has been started.  We expect additional seats will be released in the next week so get your name on the list.  Let’s make sure to show Scott Monty how Madison’s business community can fill a room!

If you have questions about the event you can email smbmad at gmail dot com.  Or give them a shout out on Twitter @smbmad
