Marivic Valencia (@techpr) is such an instigator! It started with a simple tweet to see Gary Vaynerchuk the author of Crush It and now The Thank You Economy. Hearing Gary talking about his new book, meeting Joe Sorge of AJ Bombers fame, having drive time with several board members of Madison Social Media Club, and eating at the infamous AJ Bombers was an extreme enticement for me at least. I had a great time – albeit a late evening. BuildSocial relationships at our April 13th event
During our Holiday event in 2010, the successful #JingleMingle, we shared the event with the Dane Buy Local Group. We have many cross over members and it was a wonderful way to forge new connections AND see familiar faces. One of the people I met during the event was John Locke who is a member of not only Dane Buy Local but Habitat Young Professionals. John thought his group might be interested in learning more about innovative and effective ways to use social media for the support and promotion of he group. The Social Media Club of Madison is celebrating its one year anniversary at the same place we kicked off our first year event – the Brocach Irish Pub.
Remember those days back in high school or middle school when you got a surprise valentine from your secret admirer, your Sweetheart? Well, no matter how long ago you were in school, the world has changed through social media. We no longer just have sweethearts – now we have #Tweethearts!
What is a #Tweetheart, you ask? Well, it’s a person who you have connected with on Twitter and you happen to admire – personally or professionally. They might not know it yet, but they will soon – if you come to Social Media Club’s #Tweetheart event, that is!
At this year’s #Tweetheart event, we will:
- be delivering flowers to your #Tweetheart - anonymously if desired
- giving away an awesome gift that you can share with your #Tweetheart (or not)
- holding committee signups so you can get more social media goodness in your life
- be celebrating our one year anniversary with some awesome networking, camaraderie and drinks!

Help us promote this event
What would the Social Media Club be without social media action steps for you to take. Here are a few suggestioins
- If you are going – share with your network on LinkedIn, Twitter and Facebook. Use #tweethearts and #madisonsmc to promote.
- Write a blog post about some recent social media activities you have done and share out event in that blog post.
- If you aren’t attending the event – share the event and just note that you are a “maybe” or “interested”. Why let your network suffer not knowing when you can share the details.
- Know of a community calendar? Add the event in the calendar for us – all the details are at Eventbrite
- Get your flip camera out and interview people you know who are going, post on YouTube, tag it #madisonsmc and #tweetheart and share with your networks
- Make a big red Valentine that you write ” I am taking my #Tweetheart to the Brocach and celebrate with #MadisonSMC. Take a picture of you and your friends with the sign, post on Flickr and Facebook. Share with your network and our Facebook Page. Don’t forget to tag everything.

Jingle Mingle for CASA Holiday Fundraising Event
This morning the Social Media Club of Madison is kicking off its effort to get our members (that’s you!) to donate MUCH needed items for CASA. But we need YOUR HELP.
To donate an item, follow the #jinglemingle hashtag on Twitter. When you see @madisonsmc tweet about a needed donation item (a toy, gas card, etc.) retweet the tweet using the hashtag. You have now committed to donating that item to CASA – all donations will be collected at our fabulous Jingle Mingle for CASA holiday fundraiser at The Brink Lounge on Tuesday, December 14th.
Let’s face it – you waste a LOT of time on Twitter. Here’s your chance to do some good for a change and help out this very important cause. So keep an eye peeled on #jinglemingle and get ready to open your wallets. Your small donation will make a HUGE difference to children in need in our community.

Jingle MIngle for CASA - Social Media Club of Madison Singing Contest
Well, now Chad has done it! Our new party planner has created a signature song to sing for our upcoming event. So why not have a contest to create some viral videos for our recently created MadisonSMC YouTube Channel? Believe it or not, the holiday season is the most social time of the year. It’s when friends, friends of friends, friends of those friends, and of course their friends come together to celebrate glad tidings, toast to a happy new year and find time to help those in need.
This year, the Social Media Club of Madison is throwing a holiday party to benefit CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates), which provides a voice for abused and neglected children in Dane County.
Join us at The Brink Lounge on December 14 from 6PM – 8PMish! While you’re mingling, meeting with new friends, you can enjoy a few drink specials until 7pm. And for those on the nice list, we have SWAG, prizes and some surprises!

How you can help
Follow @MadisonSMC & our #JingleMingle hashtag on Twitter and invite others to do the same. Each day we’ll tweet about items CASA needs donated using a hashtag.
For example: #CASAgascard or #CASAtoyB4yo (Toy for a 5 year old boy). When you see an item you want to donate, DM @MadisonSMC right away with that hashtag. The first person to DM will win and be responsible for bringing that item to the Jingle Mingle party.
